In 1978, Zacks Investment Research began processing, organizing and evaluating research produced by US brokerage firms. This Chicago-based company tracks changes in earnings estimates, as well as buy, sell, and hold recommendations for approximately 5,000 stocks. The information is provided by more than 3,500 financial analysts at more than 210 brokerage firms. Based on its research, Zacks compiles consensus earnings estimates, industry group reports, and company reports that are widely followed by both individual and institutional investors. The early contribution by "Zacks Investment Research" to investment analysis was the discovery that earnings per share estimate revisions are influential in affecting stock prices. This, along with calculating consensus EPS estimates of quarterly earnings (1981), and creating the concept of EPS surprises, as well as analyzing price responses to EPS surprises placed Zacks Investment Research among one of the pioneers in the industry.
In 1994, Zacks Investment Research created their company website called Zacks.com. Being a financial news and service website, Zacks Investment Research has since expanded and now also publishes stock and investment community websites such as ZacksElite.com and PeopleandPicks.com. In addition to news and financial analysis, Zacks Investment Research also provides a subscription newsletter to investors called Profit from the Pros.
